Environment

VMware Smart Assurance - SMARTS

Resolution

There are two different fixes that can be applied depending on the version of SAM you are using:

 1.)  To enable Schedule Maintenance in Smarts SAM 7.2.x, do the following:

  • Log onto the Smarts SAM console.
  • In the Topology Browser Console, right-click an instance of the local Service Assurance Manager server.
  • Select Server Tools > Enable Maintenance Tracking.

You can also enable this function from the command line:

dmctl -s INCHARGE-SA put ICS_InMaint::ICS-InMaint::isEnabled TRUE

2.)  To enable Schedule Maintenance in Smarts SAM in versions 8.x and newer:

In Smarts SAM suite, your environment must have the Maintenance and Business Impact Manager (MBIM) service configured in order to use the Schedule Maintenance functionality (see Note statement). To enable the Schedule Maintenance function in Smarts SAM 8.x and newer versions, you must do the following:

From the Smarts SAM Global Administration Console, define and enable the MBIM domain manager.

  • Reconfigure the Smarts SAM domain manager.
  • Connect the Domain Administration Console to MBIM.
  • Define the source of topology and notifications for MBIM using the Topology "Add Source" menu.  When prompted, supply the name of the SAM domain manager that will provide topology to MBIM.
  • From the Smarts SAM Topology Browser Console, invoke the Enable Maintenance menu from the top level SAM domain manager object.

Additional Information

This procedure is documented in the Smarts SAM Suite Configuration Guide available on Product Support Page (https://support.emc.com/products/). See this document for details on how to configure the Maintenance and Business Impact Manager (MBIM).
