Issue/Introduction
Symptoms
Smarts IP discovery of a community string that has a specified context is defaulting to public instead of the context value
Smarts IP discovery of a device in the pending list defaults to a different string than what was entered for the device context
Environment
Smarts 10.1.X
Cause
A device in Smarts IP can respond to two community strings, one as its context and the other as a default (public versus public@context_name). The auto discovery settings set in the Smarts Global Console are being used even when it is manually set with DMCTL or seed file
Resolution
To remove the default auto discovery community string:
Log in to Smarts Global Console and open Domain Manager.
Click the top-level domain, and auto-discovery settings will show on the right.
Remove all strings for default community's list.
Click Apply to save the changes
Click Reconfigure to apply the change to the active domain.
Additional Information
On Cisco devices, read the Cisco vendor documentation. In some circumstances, the @ sign is used to discover VLANs and is not supported in SMARTS unless used in context discovery strings.
