When does Smarts generate Interface down and Interface disabled notifications?

Environment

Smarts - 10.1.x

Resolution

The Interface disabled alarm is triggered by the underlying object(s) as per the sequence described below:

  1. Administratively Down event is generated when ADMIN status of interface or port is DOWN.
  2. If Step 1 is TRUE (ADMIN status=DOWN) and any of the following conditions exist (are TRUE), a disabled event is triggered:

    • If there are any logical connections (if the Count of Peer > 0)
    • If there are any sub-interfaces underlying interfaces (if the Count of interfaces > 0)
    • If the interface is PART of a NARG (Network Adapter Redundancy Group) so the NARG count > 0

  3. If Step 1 is TRUE (ADMIN status=DOWN) and all of the conditions in Step 2 are FALSE, the system will not trigger a disabled event (unless the managed interface is part of a multicast/MCAST group).
