Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

  • What qualifies for an Interface Disabled event in Smarts IP?
  • What are the criteria to create the Interface Disabled event in Smarts IP?
  • Why does Smarts IP generate Interface Disabled events?

Environment

SMARTS - 10.1.x

Resolution

For Smarts IP to trigger an Interface Disabled event, the following conditions must exist:

  • AprioriProbability_Disabled = 0.0001
  • Interface must be AdministrativelyDown
  • MODE = NORMAL and the following must be true:

    ( ICIM_NetworkAdapter(LayeredOver) = 0 && ICIM_NetworkAdapter(Underlying) > 0) || Peer > 0

  • If the interface is a part of a Multicast group, Multicast Discovery must be enabled (see Note statement).

These attributes are polled by Smarts IP for each interface and used as the criteria for generating Interface Disabled events.  Use the Smarts IP Domain Manager Administration Console to view the current values for these attributes. Click on the interface of concern and then click the Attributes tab to view the Interface Properties.

NOTE:
Multicast group interfaces:
Interfaces of type 1,2,166,167,168,169,170,171,172,175 are part of the Multicast group. To trigger Disabled Events for Multicast group interfaces, the DisableMulticastDiscovery parameter value in the tpmgr_param.conf configuration file must be set to FALSE. To identify Multicast group interface types, walk the .1.3.6.1.3.61.1.1.2.1.7 OID tree of  the device.
