Cannot forward SNMP v3 traps through trap exploder process.

Issue/Introduction

This article explains about the Trap exploder log file contains "Mangled value" ERROR : SNMP v3 and Traps are not processed by trap exploder.

• Smarts SAM cannot forward SNMP v3 traps through trap exploder process.
• When receiving an SNMP v3 trap we get following error message in trap exploder log file:

80: usm-privacy-parameters ->
OCTET-STRING (0x04), 8 bytes == *Error!* Mangled value.
90: Remainder of the bad packet follows.

• The following error is seen in the Trap Exploder log file when Trap exploder debug level is enabled even though it is confirmed that the username is correct:

• The following error is seen in the Trap Exploder log file when Trap exploder debug level is enabled even though it is confirmed that the username is correct:

• Smarts SAM seedfile used is the following:

Environment

SMARTS - 10.1.x

SMARTS DM - 2.x

Cause

The user running the Smarts SAM Trap exploder process ("user1" in the above debug log problem symptoms) is not configured with the proper SNMPv3 credentials.

Resolution

To address this issue, ensure that the user running the Smarts SAM Trap exploder process has the proper SNMPv3 credentials configured.
