Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

Smarts IP Cable connection is incorrectly created between two switches instead of TrunkCable connection

Environment

VMware Smart Assurance - SMARTS

Cause

The BRIDGE-MIB is not properly configured. Smarts IP creates a TrunkCable connection betwen two ports when a Port Underlying a MAC bridges only one MAC that is LayeredOver another Port, that in turn bridges only one MAC. However, this problem is seen when a Port (such as PORT-X.X.X.X/8026 [8/26]) bridges a MAC that is layered over an Interface (such as IF-10.x.x.x/13600001) instead of being layered over another Port (PORT-X.X.X.X/8026[8/26]).

Resolution

To resolve this issue so that Smarts IP is able to create the appropriate TrunkCable connections, you must ensure that the BRIDGE-MIB is properly configured.
