Smarts SAM: Are wild cards allowed for the ClassName and InstanceName?

Symptoms:


Are wild cards allowed in Smarts Service Assurance Manager (Smarts SAM) for ClassName and InstanceName?
Is wild card character implementation allowed for Smarts SAM ClassName and InstanceName?

Environment

VMware Smart Assurance - SMARTS

Resolution

As of the date this solution was approved (February 2013), the latest version of Smarts SAM (9.2) does not allow wild card character usage for the ClassName and InstanceName.

Additional Information

Wild character support would add more processing overhead as Smarts SAM would have to go through all the classes and search the instances which matches the InstanceName.
