The following sections of this Fix statement contain the answers to the above Goal statement questions.
What are the sources of Smarts notifications?
Smarts notifications have the following sources:
-
Authentic RCA problems and events from the Smarts Domain Managers such as Smarts IP/AM, MPLS and OSPF. For example, Router Down, Interface Disabled, VPN Impacted, BGPSession Down, and so on can be a source of Smarts notifications.
-
Raw alarms directly imported from Alcatel SAM through Smarts OI. Each alarm of these alarms has a string such as alarm-243-4-178 and alarm-39-11-36.
Is each Alcatel alarm converted to a Smarts notification?
Not necessarily. Unwanted Alcatel alarms can be filtered out by editing the Smarts ASA-Alarm.conf configuration file to filter the unwanted alarm entries.
Is it possible to have more notifications in Smarts than the alarms in Alcatel SAM?Yes, it is possible. If this happens, EMC Smarts Support recommends that you filter out the raw alarms because they are not correlated alarms, but Smarts problems/events are. After each such raw alarm is filtered out, the resulting number of notifications should be less than the number of alarms in Alcatel SAM.
If an alarm is manually cleared in the Alcatel SAM will it be cleared in Smarts or remain active?
It will be cleared in Smarts.
Are there any alarms which do not clear but instead remain active forever in Smarts?
No. If this behavior is seen, it is most likely caused by a defect.
