Issue/Introduction

You are preparing for the installation of a new CA Product release. You have downloaded the CA Product installation paxfile into a USS File-system and are attempting to unpax the paxfile using the command:

pax -rvf paxfile.pax.Z

The process starts but quickly fails with the message:

pax: decompress: FSUM6639 compressed file is corrupt

Environment

Release: CA90SV00200-14-Common Services-for z/OS
Component:

Resolution

There are generally only a few things that can go wrong.

  • The first is that the file was not transferred in BINARY mode.
  • The second is that that transfer was not complete for some reason. Check the file size in your mainframe file-system. You should see that it shows the same size that is seen from your desktop on which you downloaded the file.
  • Another possibility is that the file-system you are using is not large enough to allow the paxfile to be fully unpaxed.
