Unmanaged BGPProtocolEndpoint is not instrumented when re-managed in Smarts NPM

Environment

VMware Smart Assurance - SMARTS

Cause

When a BGPProtocolEndpoint is unmanaged, the InstrumentedBy property is cleared.  When this same BGPProtocolEndpoint is re-managed, the InstrumentedBy property does not get re-populated and does not get polled until a rediscovery takes place, so it will not be instrumented.

Resolution

To manage a BGPProtocolEndpoint again after doing an Unmanage operation on that BGPProtocolEndpoint, without having to do a rediscovery, you can do the following:

  1. Right click on the BGPProtocolEndpoint object and click Manage.
  2. In the Smarts "Domain Manager Administration Console" window, open the BGP Server window.
  3. On the Menu bar of the BGP Server window, click Topology > Reconfigure. The reconfigure operation will create the missing instrumented objects for that BGPProtocolEndpoint.
  4. Wait for the values to get populated, which will occur after the next polling interval. The SNMP Polling Interval can be seen in the Polling and Thresholds console. The SNMP Polling Interval default value is 240 seconds.
