Why do only some interfaces which are Administratively down in Smarts IP generate "Disabled" notifications?

Environment

VMware Smart Assurance - SMARTS

Resolution

An interface with Admin status down and oper status down in Smarts IP only generates a Disabled notification under the following conditions (see Note statement):

  • If the interface is part of a NARG (Network Adapter Redundancy Group). Interfaces are configured to be part of Redundancy group when one of the interfaces in a group is ACTIVE the other is in STANDBY, so that if the ACTIVE interface goes down the STANDBY will resume the connection and become ACTIVE.

  • If the Interface is a sub-interface. If an interface is layeredOver sub-interfaces, when the main interface is admin down it will generate Disabled events for the main interface.

  • It has PEER relationship such as L3, L2 connections like N/W connections, Cable connections.

Additional Information

An interface with Admin status up and oper status down generates a DOWN notification.
