Issue/Introduction

This article covers the steps to filter 'Router Down' messages being sent from MPLS to SAM Domain Managers

Environment

Smarts 10.1.X

Resolution

The Smarts MPLS Manager receives transport root-cause problem events from the Smarts Availability Manager, including the following:

  • Router Down
  • Interface Down
  • Interface Disabled
  • NetworkConnection Down

To prevent the Router Down messages in MPLS alerts from being pulled into SAM from MPLS, do the following:

  1. Open the SAM dxa-mpls-vpn-ics.conf configuration file for editing using sm_edit. This file is found here:
    <SAM>/smarts/conf/ics/dxa-mpls-vpn-ics.conf

  2. Find and comment out the following line. This line responsible for the SAM Domain receiving Down notifications from MPLS.
    sev ICIM_UnitaryComputerSystem          Down               Availability        1

  3. Save and close the dxa-mpls-vpn-ics.conf configuration file.

To apply these settings:

  • Disable and Enable the MPLS domain (with reconfigure operation on each step of disable and enable) on the SAM -> Global Manager Administration Console
Note: This may clear and notify the alarms on the SAM domain.

    OR

  • Restart the SAM domain.
