Smarts IP Performance Manager does not discover CPU, Memory, or disk information for VMware ESXi 4.1 hosts

Environment

VMware Smart Assurance - SMARTS

Cause

Smarts IP Performance Manager uses the SNMP Host Resources MIB OID (.1.3.6.1.2.1.25) to query the CPU, Memory, and disk information for servers. The SNMP agent in ESXi 4.1 does not supply this information.

Resolution

To enable Smarts IP Performance Manager to discover CPU, Memory, and disk information, you can do either of the following:

• Use VMware ESX 4.1, which supports the NetSNMP agent
   
• Upgrade to VMware ESXi 5.0, which provides the Host Resources MIB
