Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:


Trap Receiver fails to start due to OI server not running
Unable to start the Trap Adapter(Receiver).


Trap adapter does not start
No Trap Notifications appear in SAM Console

Traps are not being processed by OI

Environment

VMware Smart Assurance - SMARTS

Cause

Trap daemon has to have an active OI server to attach to before starting.   If no active OI server is available, then the trap daemon cannot attach and will not start.

Resolution

When installing the SAM Trap Receiver and OI Domain Manager, make sure the trap receiver daemon is always started after the OI domain Manager.  If not, the traps will not start and the traps that are received will not be processed for display in OI or SA Domain Managers.
