Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

Smarts SAM is crashing because of MPLS reconnects
Occasional jumpsĀ or increases in Smarts SAM memory utilization are observed

Messages similar to the following can be seen in the SAM server log at the time increases in Smarts SAM memory utilization occur:

[08-Jun-2008 03:52:46 AM+509ms GMT] t@60 INCHARGE-MPLS_Event-Driver
ICS-W-EDISCONNECTED-ics-event-processing.asl: DISCONNECT 'INCHARGE-MPLS'

[08-Jun-2008 03:52:46 AM+522ms GMT] t@60 INCHARGE-MPLS_Event-Driver
ICS-W-ECONNECTED-ics-event-processing.asl: CONNECT 'INCHARGE-MPLS'

Environment

VMware Smart Assurance - SMARTS

Cause

Repeated MPLS disconnects and reconnects can lead to a flooding of the SAM queues. This in turn can grow the memory that SAM uses and can lead to a SAM crashing with "out of memory" error.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, you must determine the reason that MPLS is disconnecting and resolve that issue. ThisĀ can be due to timeouts or erratic network behavior that are not related to Smarts MPLS. Contact your local network administrator to troubleshoot.
