Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:




Smarts Service Assurance Manager (Smarts SAM) trap adapter log is growing at a fast rate to a large size

Environment

VMware Smart Assurance - SMARTS

Cause

The debug flag in the trapParse.asl file is set to TRUE by default.

Resolution

If you encounter this issue, use sm_edit ot set the debug flag to FALSE in the trapParse.asl file found here:

<SAMBASEDIR>/smarts/rules/trapd

This is done as follows:

1. Navigate to the /bin directory on the Smarts SAM server (<SAMBASEDIR>/smarts/bin).
2. Open the trapParse.asl file for editing using sm_edit:
   
   sm_edit rules/trapd/trapParse.asl
   
    
3. Find the debug = TRUE attribute and change it to debug = FALSE.
4. Save and close the trapParse.asl file.
5. Restart the trap adapter.
