Smarts SAM/ESM: "ESM" Domain type does not appear in Smarts SAM configuration screen and dxa-esm.conf is not available in Smarts SAM as a domain type

Symptoms:




The EMC Server Manager ESM Domain type does not appear in Smarts SAM configuration screen
ESM (EMC Server Manager) dxa-esm.conf is not available in Smarts SAM as a domain type

Environment

VMware Smart Assurance - SMARTS

Cause

Smarts SAM checks the following directory for the DXA files that describe domain types

smarts/conf/<configuration name>

However, hot fixes and point releases which add new domain types will only add these into the default directory (smarts/local/conf/ics). For this reason, it is not recommended to use a different name.

Resolution

If the Smarts SAM domain is started with a configuration besides ics (such as --config=ics-aggr), you will need to copy the DXA files installed in hot fix releases to the smarts/local/conf/<configuration name> directory.
