Traps received in Smarts OI and Smarts SAM are not creating toplogy objects even though the UnknownAgent parameter of the trap definition is set to CREATE

Environment

VMware Smart Assurance - SMARTS

Cause

The trap definition must also have the parameters ElementClassName and ElementName defined.

Resolution

The following shows an example trap definition in the Smarts trap_mgr.conf file for a coldStart trap with the required parameters defined:

BEGIN_TRAP * 0 0
        ClassName:        Host
        InstanceName:     $SYS$
        EventName:        coldStart
        ElementClassName: $V2$
        ElementName:      $V1$
        Severity:         5
        Expiration:       600
        State:            NOTIFY
        UnknownAgent:     CREATE
        EventType:        MOMENTARY
END_TRAP
