Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • Hibernation in native boot camp Windows 7 64 bit gets automatically enabled.
  • This issue occurs after booting into the virtual environment, then booting into the native boot camp partition.


Environment

VMware Fusion 4.x

Cause

This issue occurs because the disableGuestHibernate.dll file in the C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Tools\plugins\vmsvc folder is not restoring the state properly.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, manually change the hibernation setting.

To manually change the hibernation setting:
  1. Boot to Windows Boot Camp natively.
  2. Navigate to C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Tools\plugins\vmsvc.
  3. Delete or rename disableGuestHibernate.dll.
  4. Open a command prompt with Administrator privileges. For more information, see Opening a command or shell prompt (1003892).
  5. Run the command:

    powercfg.exe /hibernate off

  6. Restart Windows.
