Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:




VoyenceControl Startup and Running configurations are out of sync due to banner control characters
The ^C on each side of the banner causes the VoyenceControl Startup and Running configurations to be out of sync

The | symbol appears in either the VoyenceControl startup or running configuration banner and a / appears in the same place in the opposite configuration

Environment

VMware Smart Assurance - NCM

Cause

VoyenceControl replaces the ^C with special characters to keep control characters from being placed in the stored configuration. However, if the symbol that VoyenceControl attempts to use already exists in the configuration, the application will move to the next character in the following list:

|/\$%&*-+<>?XYZ_!@{},."

In most cases, this issue has been seen when an interface description has the | symbol in either the startup or running configuration.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, do the following:

1. Log into the the device outside of VoyenceControl.
2. Sync the configurations using the command appropriate to the device type.
3. Pull the configurations again to verify that the banner control characters are the same.
