Newly created Users and existing Users cannot access device properties or view device configurations without having System Administration privileges.

Issue/Introduction

• Newly created Users and existing Users in NetOps Network Configuration Manager cannot access device properties or view device configurations without having System Administration privileges.
• Cannot view device configuration even though device has a valid configuration.
• Receive the following error when double clicking on a device to view at device configuration:
  • Selected devices do not have any config file or permission to perform specified action.
• Receive the following error when trying to view device properties from Smarts NCM device view:
  • You are not authorized to complete all actions.

Cause

This is caused by a Group or User who has been configured with specific assigned device permissions in User Management, System Users or System Groups. Any of the devices which have been assigned to a specific Group or User will be unavailable to any other User (unless the user has system administration privledges) and if the User is not a part of the same Group.

Resolution

If you encounter this issue, do the following:

1. Login to NCM as sysadmin or with any account that has System Administration rights.
2. Check all Users and All Groups that none of been handed specific device permissions by viewing the permissions of each and looking for any device(s) populated under the "Device Permissions" folder.
3. If any devices are listed in this folder, click on the "Device Permissions" Folder and remove them. To do this, select the "Manage" button to the bottom right, select remove all, and then select "OK".
4. Check all Users and Groups again. Once all have been removed, then confirm that users can now view device configurations and properties without having System Administrator privileges.
