Unable to schedule compliance audit in Smarts NCM

Environment

VMware Smart Assurance - NCM

Cause

There is not a direct way to schedule a compliance audit.

Resolution

To schedule compliance audits in Smarts NCM, you must locate a compliance policy and apply the policy to an area (see Note statement). This is done as follows:

  1. In Smarts NCM, open Tools > Automation Library > Compliance
  2. Right click on the desired compliance policy.
  3. Click on Areas tab.
  4. Check area that compliance test needs to be run and click Save.
  5. To enable the policy, click the scales icon on the left column.
  6. To enforce the policy, click the gavel icon.

Additional Information

Automation library knowledge and concept needs to be understood before applying the above fix. Additionally, setup parameters such as policies and standards need to be created before the above fix is implemented.

Briefly, when a device or set of devices under the area of the policy are pulled, a compliance audit is run. If they are found to be out of compliance, a remedy is scheduled but not run for security concerns. This means the remedy will have to be approved before the jobs are brought back into compliance.
