Is it required to have a Database password when running a backup.pl and archive-utility.pl?

Environment

VMware Smart Assurance - NCM

Cause

The following changes were added to the 9.x series. 

Security changes

• Using AES-256 algorithm for encryption.
• Externalizes the encryption key used for encryption.
• Password protected database access.
• Supports secure https communications only.

Resolution

In versions listed below it is a requirement to have the Database password to run the backup.pl and archive.pl database utilities. 

• NCM 9.1
• NCM 9.2
• NCM 9.2.1
• NCM 9.2.2.
• NCM 9.22a

In versions listed below it is not a requirement to have the Database password to run the backup.pl and archive.pl database utilities. 

• NCM 9.3
• NCM 9.4
• NCM 9.4.1

The database password is the password you entered when you ran the installation of NCM and it requested for you to create a Database password. If you don't know or remember your Database Password please contact EMC Techincal Support at 1-800-782-4362.
