Symptoms:

Automatic pulls are not scheduled for Juniper devices when traps are forwarded through an intermediary server

Environment

VMware Smart Assurance - NCM

Cause

Voyence is unable to locate the device IP in the trap because there is no agent-addr value in the trap header.  Juniper devices do not include the agent-addr in the trap by default and it will only be sent with SNMPv1 traps.

Resolution

The device must be configured to send SNMPv1 traps and to include the agent-addr:

  1. Configure your trap-group to send SNMP v1 or all (both v1 and v2c) trap types:

    set snmp trap-group <groupname> version (v1"all)

  2. Configure your trap-options to send the agent-addr:

    set snmp trap-options agent-addr outgoing-interface

  3. Commit your changes.  Now traps will contain the agent-addr. Voyence will use this to lookup the device and schedule automatic pulls.
