Issue/Introduction

After logging into vCenter with the vSphere Client, the fields "Last Updated:" and "Last File-Based Backup:" are missing and only the fields "Version:" and "Build:" are visible on the Summary tab:

However, if logged in to the vSphere Client as [email protected] (or other account with correct permissions), the last time the vCenter Server was updated ("Last Updated") as well as the last time a file-based backup was taken in the VAMI ("Last File-Based Backup"): fields are displayed correctly:

Environment

vCenter Server 7.x
vCenter Server 8.x

Cause

The "Last Updated:" and "Last File-Based Backup:" fields are only shown when the user logged in in vSphere Client has access permissions to the information.

This access is not part of the vCenter administrator role or the global administrator role.

Resolution

To gain access to be able to display this information, the user account needs to be a member of the "SystemConfiguration.Administrators" group in vCenter Single Sign-On.
To add this membership please take the following steps:

  1. Login to the vSphere Client with an SSO administrator account (e.g. by using the default account [email protected])
  2. In the top bar, click on "Menu", the select "Administration"
  3. In the left column, under "Single Sign On", select "Users and Groups"
  4. In the right tab, click on "Groups"
  5. Look for the "SystemConfiguration.Administrators" group in the table and click on its name
  6. Using the "Add members" button, add the specific account you want to enable to see the fields
