Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • Powering off the virtual machine from inside the guest operating system causes the machine to display a state of Partially Powered Off.
  • Powering off the virtual machine and leaving the vApp in a Partially Powered Off state, editing virtual machine hardware configuration settings results in the loss of network connectivity after the virtual machine is powered back on.
  • The NIC card shows as Disconnected in vCenter Server.
  • Guest customization is not triggered after you make hardware changes to the virtual machine.

Resolution

This issue is resolved in vCloud Director 5.5.1 available from VMware Downloads.

If you are unable to upgrade at this time you can use these workarounds to resolve the issue:
  • If the issue has not yet occurred, stop the partially powered off virtual machine, edit the virtual machine settings, then power on the virtual machine. This prevents the issue from occurring.
  • If the issue has already occurred, stop the virtual machine. Verify that the virtual machine shows as Stopped on the VMware vCloud Director website, then power on the virtual machine.
