How to create a Remote Virtual Inventory Collect Task?

Issue/Introduction

Remote virtual Inventory is used for virtual machines that you cannot install an agent on, but you want to collect inventory for that machine.
List of the type of machine you can use Remote Virtual Inventory with:
  • Citrix XenServer
  • HP
  • IBM
  • Microsoft Hyper-V
  • Sun
  • VMWare  vCenter  Server
  • VMWare vSphere Hypervisor(ESX/ESXi)

 

Environment

Client Automation - 12.9 or higher

How to Set up Remote Virtual Inventory ?

During the install you have to select Remote Virtualization Inventory (RVI) for the machine that will do the scan.
This will create the Collect tasks that you need in the later steps.

RVI plugin could also be installed after using the SD Package "CA DSM Agent AM RVI plugin *"

 

Create a New Collect Tasks from the Domain Manager Agent

 

Select Virtual Host Inventory

 

 

Give the Collect Task a Name

 

 

 Add a Task  

 

 

Add the information for the machine you want to collect from:
(Remote Virtual Inventory requires root access just like a regular agent)

When the Asset Management Agent on the machine (you created the RVI task for) runs, it will run the RVI task and will collect from the remote machines.
