This is a known issue affecting the vSphere Web Client 5.5 and 6.0.
To resolve this issue:
- Uninstall Firefox, restart the machine, and install an Extended Support version of Firefox (For example: Version 52.0) and the Client Integration Plugin.
- If the issue occurs after you reinstall Firefox and the Client Integration Plugin, edit Firefox options to import the vmware-localhost certificate:
-
- Launch the Options window in Firefox and in the Advanced tab, select Certificates.
- On the Certificates tab, click View Certificates, and on the Authorities tab, click Import.
- Navigate to C:\ProgramData\VMware\CIP\csd\ssl and select the cert.pem file.
- Select Trust this CA to identify websites and verify that vmware-localhost is listed in the Authorities tab.
- Create a new user profile. For more information on creating a new user profile, see the Creating a profile section in the Use the Profile Manager to create and remove Firefox profiles Guide.
Note: The preceding link was correct as of July 17, 2017. If you find the link is broken, provide feedback and a VMware employee will update the link.
- If the issue occurs after a new user profile is created, use Microsoft Internet Explorer or Google Chrome to connect to the vSphere Web Client.
- You may get an error like below.

If so, on the computer you installed the CIP (Client Integration Plugin) , open Services (services.msc) and start the service "VMware Cip Message Proxy Service"
