Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • Powering on a virtual machines fails with error:

    The host is reporting errors in its attempts to provide vSphere HA support

  • In the %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\VMWare\vCenterServer\logs\vpxd.log file, the latest entry

    HostMo::UpdateDasState will be config error:

    info 'vpxdvpxdMoHost' opID=A13D1F80-00001C42-57] [HostMo::UpdateDasState] VC state for host host-170 (initialized -> config error (from VC)), FDM state (Live -> Live), src of state (host-87578 -> host-87578)

  • Fault Domain Manager(FDM) on the host is running.

Cause

Once error occurs during HA reconfiguration and the vCenter server state for a host throws config error, vCenter Server 5.5.x and prior don't recover the status until upcoming HA reconfiguration succeeds even though the FDM state goes back to live.

This status causes vim.fault.HAErrorsAtDest exception in pre-powerOn check and the powerOn task fails.

Resolution

This issue is resolved in vCenter Server 5.5 Update 3f, available at VMware Downloads.

To workaround to the issue reconfigure HA manually.

Additional Information

This issue will not occur in vCenter Server 6.0 GA and later since these versions don't set the host state as config error in this situation.
