Issue/Introduction

In VMware Tanzu Application Service (TAS) for VMs 2.8, metadata about the name of the org/space/app in log messages and metrics will not be updated when doing a cf rename for an app, org, or space until the app is restarted.

This affects the hostname in outgoing syslog messages and the app_name, org_name, and space_name tags that are present in logs/metrics in syslog drains and the firehose.

Resolution

Due to the change from using the syslog adapter to syslog agents, components are now responsible for attaching the metadata to app logs. This metadata is sent through CAPI, and only when a new LRP is issued.
 
Note: This includes restarts, staging, etc. but doesn't include app renaming.

As of TAS 4.0, customers who rename apps will now see emitted logs and metrics quickly tagged with the new application name without the need for an application restart.
