Issue/Introduction

As per the release notes of GPText 3.5.0, it is compatible with Greenplum Database (GPDB) 5.x: https://gptext.docs.pivotal.io/350/relnotes/GPText_350_README.html

"GPText runs with Greenplum Database version 4.3.6 or higher, Greenplum Database 5, or Greenplum Database 6."

However, sometimes when we try to install GPText 3.5.0 on GPDB 5.x, it could fail with the following error: "Unsupported GPDB version 5":

20201222:21:09:53:005447 gptext-install:mdw:gpadmin-[CRITICAL]:-Installation failed: Unsupported GPDB version 5, can not find /opt/greenplum-text-3.5.0/lib/gptext-gpdb5-3.5.0.so

Resolution

These instructions may apply to other GPText versions as well.

1. First make sure you always check the release notes to make sure the version of GPText is compatible with the target Greenplum Database (GPDB).

2. Once step #1 confirmed, go to https://network.pivotal.io/.

3. On the GPText installation package page, there are two installation packages:
  • Greenplum Text 3.5.0 for RHEL 6: this is for GP4 and GP5
  • Greenplum Text 3.5.0 for RHEL 7: this is for GP6
4. Download the file for RHEL 6 and try to install GPText again.
