Issue/Introduction

The goal of this guide is not to provide a complete list of all log messages.  Many log messages are simply informative.   The primary goal is to share and explain the meaning of log messages that customers may see as they attempt to recover from or explain some incident.

If the meaning is clear, and the potential resolution shared makes sense, perhaps the customer can avoid the cost of opening a ticket, the cost of sending many artifacts, and can bring down the time to recover from incidents with the assistance of our new Log Messages and Solutions section of our documentation.

Announcing a new section of our GemFire product documentation.   A "Log Messages and Solutions" section, to assist customers with troubleshooting issues in their GemFire environments.

The goal of this article is to bring awareness to all GemFire customers of a new section of our official production documentation, beginning with version 9.10.x of GemFire and going forward to all subsequent versions.

The Log Messages and Solutions section for version 9.10.x can be found using this link.

In general, the GemFire product documentation can be found using this link.

You can then select the appropriate version, and search for the "Log Messages and Solutions" section.

Symptoms:

GemFire product has the ability to generate many log messages.   Many of these messages are very helpful with troubleshooting various issues, and, when understood, can lead of potential resolution of such issues.

These log messages are some of the first symptoms that customers may become aware of through monitoring or examination of logs, or may only be noticed due to negative business impact driving deeper investigation.

When the meaning of the log messages are understood, and potential resolutions are known, it may be possible to repair the system more quickly, without the need for opening a customer ticket, sharing of artifacts, etc.
