BOSH fails to create a VM with error 'Failed to acquire DRS lock: drs_lock_vm_group'

Issue/Introduction

When trying to create a VM, BOSH fails with the message:
 

L Error: Unknown CPI error 'Unknown' with message 'Failed to acquire DRS lock: drs_lock_vm_group' in 'create_vm' CPI method (CPI request ID: 'cpi-466310')

Environment

Product Version: 2.10

Resolution

This issue happens when the drs_lock_vm_group attribute is not removed from vSphere when BOSH deletes a VM. 

To resolve this:

• Go to vSphere -> Menu -> Tags & Custom Attributes
• There should be drs_lock_vm_group in the list
• Delete that attribute.

In a situation where the drs_lock_vm_group attribute is deleted but BOSH still returns the error message, this indicates that there could be another underlying issue with vSphere. In that case, please open a support case.
