Change the Tanzu Operations Manager Passphrase

Issue/Introduction

During the initial installation of Tanzu Operations Manager, you are prompted to set a passphrase. This passphrase is used to encrypt Operations Manager configuration data.

You may need to change this passphrase after the installation has been completed. For example, to comply with organization's security policy. 

Environment

Tanzu Operations Manager 3.x

Resolution

Follow the steps below to change the Operations Manager passphrase:

1) Log into Operations Manager as an administrator

    a) Click the login user name (e.g. "admin") in the upper right corner and go to "Settings"

    b) You will then have the option to change the passphrase. Enter the current passphrase, the new passphrase, and also confirm the new passphrase

   

    c) Finally, click the "CHANGE DECRYPTION PASSPHRASE" button

Operations Manager Foundation core web UI

    a) Click the login user name (e.g. "admin") in the upper right corner and go to "Settings"

    b) You will then have the option to change the passphrase. Enter the current passphrase, the new passphrase, and also confirm the new passphrase

    c) Finally, click the "CHANGE PASSPHRASE" button

Impacts or Risks

The passphrase cannot be recovered. So, it is important to keep the back up of the passphrase.
