App Control: Database Backup Fails: 'Error 2 rotating backup files'

Issue/Introduction

• Database Backup fails with following Server Management Event in Console:

Last full backup failed: Error 2 rotating backup files "<backup_path>\Full_backup.tmp" => "<backup_path>\Full_backup.bak": The system cannot find the file specified

 

Environment

• App Control Server: All Versions
• Database Backup via Console

Cause

The Backup Path specified in the System Configuration-> Advanced Options tab is running out of space.

Resolution

Allocate more space to the Backup Path partition, or point the Backup Path to a drive with more free space.

Additional Information

• Local backups should only be used on a different physical drive than the App Control Server drive
• For best performance, avoid creating unnecessary subdirectories
• Keep the backup directory as close as possible to the server root directory, example: \\server_name\appcontrol_backup
• The free space available to the backup folder should be at least twice the size of the App Control Server database
• For both your backup folder and your main SQL database, monitor disk space regularly to prevent overruns
