Carbon Black Cloud Endpoint Standard (formerly Cb Defense)

Issue/Introduction

Microsoft Outlook generates a warning with the following content
A program is trying to access email address information

stored in Outlook. If this is unexpected, click Deny and verify

your antivirus software is up-to-date.

For more information about email safety and how you

might be able to avoid getting this warning, click Help.

Environment

  • Endpoint Standard: All Versions
  • Microsoft Windows: All Supported Versions with Windows Security Center active

Cause

  • While it's possible this is caused by CB Defense reporting as off or out of date to Windows Security Center, there are numerous possible causes outside of CB Defense

Resolution

  1. Verify CB Defense Status in Windows Security Center
  2. Verify CB Defense Status in Outlook
  3. If CB Defense shows as On, Up to Date, and Valid then CB Defense is not the Cause of the issue
  4. Research what program may be accessing the Outlook and review the Microsoft Article on this subject

Additional Information

In some cases it has been seen that upgrading from an older CB Defense Sensor version to 3.3.0.984 has resolved this issue.
