Workload: Appliance not booting and immediately enters GRUB Mode

Issue/Introduction

  • Appliance does not boot and immediately enters GRUB Mode
  • Hitting 'E' on the Grub mode asks for a username and password
    • Entering the credentials returns to original GRUB mode
  • Hitting enter again after attempting credentials throws the error: "Error: you need to load the kernel first"

Environment

  • Carbon Black Cloud Workload: All Versions
  • VMware vCenter

 

Cause

Appliance Kernel has crashed

Resolution

Install new appliance and perform vCenter and Carbon Black Cloud registration

Additional Information

When rebuilding the new carbon black appliance a new IP address must be set. For registering carbon black to vcenter you can use the same ip/host name
