Issue/Introduction

  • Linux Sensor installs in bypass when using tcsh command line shell
  • The following errors are observed during sensor install and special characters may be striped from the Company Code (if present)
Unable to decipher provided registration code: XXXXXXX: Event not found.
An error occurred during registration (failed to decipher registration code: XXXXXXX: Event not found.

Environment

  • Carbon Black Linux Sensor: All Supported Versions
  • Linux: All Supported Versions

Cause

This issue happens because tcsh command line shell may strip special characters (e.g. exclamation point) from the company code

Resolution

Install the sensor using a bash command line shell

Additional Information

"unable to decipher provided registration code" may also occur in some cases if using single quotes instead of doubles
