App Control: Parity Server Service is Crashing after Installation on AWS Server

Issue/Introduction

• Parityserver.exe crashing repeatedly
• Get the error attempting to start the parity server service:

  Windows could not start the Carbon Black App Control Server service on Local Computer. Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly.

• Particular error seen in the install log:

  (WARNING) Could not perform Carbon Black App Control Server rules prepare task.

Environment

• App Control Server: All Supported Versions
• AWS RDS Server

Cause

SQL server instance name is longer than 63 characters, anything above 63 chars cause memory overflow and crashes the App Control server service

Resolution

1. Rename the AWS SQL instance to a name that is no longer than the 63 characters
2. Reinstall App Control Server
