Sensor install on Server 2008 machines failing network connection to backend

Issue/Introduction

• Sensor will not install due to network connection errors
• SSL/TLS Errors seen in install logs:
  • http: schannel: SSL/TLS connection with dev-prod05.conferdeploy.net port 443
    http: schannel: failed to receive handshake, need more data 
• Previous versions of sensors installed without issue on the server(s)

Environment

• Carbon Black Cloud Sensor: Version 3.2.1.51 and Higher
• Microsoft Windows Server 2008

Cause

Support for Microsoft Windows Server 2008 ended with the 3.1 sensor which will no longer connect to the backend as described here

Resolution

• Windows 2008 and before will no longer connect to the Carbon Black Cloud and cannot be used
• Upgrade to an operating system with a supported sensor version

Additional Information

Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 is still supported as of the latest sensor. This only affects Server 2008 SP0/1/2.
