How to configure the Agent for use with Citrix App Layering Integration

Environment

  • App Control Server: All Supported Versions
  • App Control Agent: All Supported Versions

Resolution

Step 1: App Control Settings

  1. Log in to the Console and navigate to Rules > Policies.
  2. Create or verify the dedicated Policy to be used for Citrix App Layering.
  3. Navigate to: https://ServerAddress/agent_config.php
  4. Click Add Agent Config
    • Enable the Citrix App Layering Integration
      Property Name: Approve Citrix App Layering Files
      Host ID: 0
      Value:
      approve_files_on_unidesk_ro_volume=1
      Create for: Specific Policies that contain the Citrix VMs
      Enable and Save it
    • Disable USN journal check - this feature can cause performance issues with the Citrix App Layering environment. New files discovered by the agent on system startup could trigger automatic Cache Consistency checks.
      Property Name: Disable USN Journal Check
      Host ID: 0
      Value:
      usn_journal_flags=0
      Create for: Specific Policies that contain the Citrix VMs
      Enable and Save it
    • Disable Volume Remediation - the GUIDs of the attached volumes changes every time the system starts. The agent will trigger automatic CC check when it detect that a new volume is attached to the system leading to performance impact.
      Property Name: Disable Volume Remediation
      Host ID: 0
      Value:
      allow_volume_remediation=1
      Create for: Specific Policies that contain the Citrix VMs
      Enable and Save it
  5. Follow the steps outlined in the User Guide > Managing Virtual Machines > Creating a Template Computer.
    • IMPORTANT: Citrix App Layering uses the Template Computer feature. Do not use the Template Image feature.

Step 2: Citrix App Layering Console:

  1. In the Citrix Create Template Wizard
  2. Click Layered Image Disk
  3. Set the following 2 configurations:
    • Elastic Layering: Application Layering
    • User Layer: None
