Issue/Introduction
To be able to install a previous version of a Sensor without changing the 'Upgrade Policy' to 'Automatically upgrade to a specific version' within the Sensors --> Groups settings in the GUI.
To be able to give flexibility to apply a different version of the sensor if you need to downgrade to a previous version for stability/performance related issues.
To alleviate sensors within a group to automatically downgrade upon next check in.
Environment
EDR Server: All Supported Versions
Microsoft Windows: All Supported Versions
Resolution
Step One
In the Sensors page, create a new group by selecting 'NEW'.
Name the group.
Select the 'Upgrade Policy' tab and select 'Automatically upgrade to the latest version'.
From the drop down , select the version you wish to be made available in the console.
Select 'Create Group'.
This now makes available a previous version to download within the console.
The next step instructs how to apply the settings to a desired group.
Step Two
From the group you wish the sensor to register to with a previous sensor version, copy the 'sensorsettings.ini' and version.txt' files from the installation media.
Paste the two files into the new installation media which we made available in 'Step One'. This will overwrite the new groups settings.
Amend the 'version.txt' file with the correct version of the sensor.
E.g. CarbonBlack v6.2.2.90503 GPO MSI Installer archive for group 'Default Group' to CarbonBlack v6.1.9.81012 GPO MSI Installer archive for group 'Default Group'
Now you can use the amended installation media to install a previous version of a sensor and it will register to your desired group.
