Issue/Introduction

When the Trap Director is enabled on a SpectroSERVER other than the Main Location Server (MLS), the Trap Director landscape keeps losing/regaining contact with the MLS approx every 60 seconds.

The following events/alarm can be seen on the Trap Director system when contact is lost and then regained to the MLS:

Aug 15, 2014 5:02:13 AM EDT    MLS    Model MLS of type Landscape has been contacted.    0x10301
Minor    Aug 15, 2014 5:03:12 AM EDT    Aug 15, 2014 5:03:13 AM EDT    MLS    Request to Landscape model ( name - MLS, type - Landscape ) failed due to an unknown error.    0x10d29    System

Aug 15, 2014 5:03:12 AM EDT    MLS    Contact has been lost with model MLS of type Landscape.    0x10302

Environment

Component:

Cause

Both MLS and Trap Director SS are trying to connect to each other at same time. When this is the case both the connections are getting dropped while checking for duplicates.

Resolution

As a work around, shutdown the SpectroSERVER where the Trap Director is enabled and leave it down for approximately 5 minutes so any outstanding communications between the Trap Director system and the MLS can timeout. Then restart the SpectroSERVER where the Trap Director is enabled.

This has been resolved in Spectrum 10.2.2 and above.

If you continue to see this problem, it is due to configuring multiple SpectroSERVERs as Trap Directors.  In a distributed Spectrum environment, only one SpectroSERVER is supported as a Trap Director.

Additional Information

As noted in CA Spectrum documentation you can only designate one SpectroSERVER as the Trap Director:

https://docops.ca.com/ca-spectrum/10-2-3/en/administrating/distributed-spectroserver-administration/working-with-trap-director

To use Trap Director, designate one SpectroSERVER as the Trap Director server. Enable Trap Director on that server. Then configure that server as the network management station (NMS) recipient for traps from devices that are modeled in the remote landscapes.
