App Control: Backup Database is Terminating Abnormally

Issue/Introduction

The 'das' database backup fails due to error:

BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally.

Environment

• App Control Server: All Supported Versions
• Microsoft SQL Server: All Supported Versions

Cause

There can be many reasons that cause this error. Here is the list of some reasons:

1. Automatic Database Backup feature in the Console is being used on an unsupported edition of SQL Server.
2. Failed the medium in which the data backup was stored.
3. A write failure occurs simultaneously while the backup process is running.
4. A loss of connectivity occurred during the network backup procedure.
5. There is not enough space on the backup drive.

Resolution

• The automated database backup feature built into the Console is not designed for deployments of more than 100 endpoints.
• For deployments of more than 100 endpoints a Maintenance Plan should be created via SQL Server Management Studio.
• This error is from MS SQL Server. Please engage your database team to troubleshoot the issue.
