Issue/Introduction

Why is support requesting RepCLI authentication to be enabled?

Environment

  • Carbon Black Cloud Windows Sensor: 3.3.x.x and Higher
  • Microsoft Windows: All Supported Versions
  • Carbon Black Cloud Mac Sensor: 3.5.x.x and higher
  • Apple macOS: All supported versions

Resolution

VMware Carbon Black Support personnel may request RepCLI Authentication to be enabled as this feature provides a number of elevated troubleshooting functions which may be required to debug a particular issue i.e. Collecting Sensor Performance Logs with Sensor Capture Script

Additional Information

  • Although there are a number of functions which can only be used when RepCLI Authentication is enabled (ref: Carbon Black Cloud: What are some RepCLI Commands that Require Authentication? ), "RepCLI reregister" is the only command that is currently supported by VMware Carbon Black and this function requires RepCLI Authentication
  • RepCLI debug functionality should only be used when directed to by VMware Carbon Black Support.
