Issue/Introduction

What happens to a windows sensor when the hostname is changed?

Environment

  • Carbon Black Cloud Console: All Supported Versions
  • Carbon Black Cloud Windows Sensor: All Supported Versions

Resolution

  • Once the hostname change is detected by the sensor, it will be recognized once the subsequent check-in with the cloud occurs.
  • The new hostname will be reflected on the Inventory page.

Additional Information

  • It is recommended to use the device_id when searching.
  • The hostname is considered metadata and not a unique identifier in Carbon Black Cloud.
  • For Linux Sensors the hostname is used to calculate the deviceID and will cause the deviceID to change
