Issue/Introduction

Explain how to auto-assign sensors at time of install

Environment

  • Carbon Black Cloud Console: All Versions
  • Carbon Black Cloud Sensor: All Supported Versions
  • Microsoft Windows: All Supported Versions
  • Apple macOS: All Supported Versions

Resolution

  1. Log into the Carbon Black Cloud Console
  2. Go to the Endpoints page
  3. Ensure there is at least one Sensor Group (create one if not)
  4. Install the sensor on the desired machine using either the Unattended (CLI) or Attended (double-click the MSI) method in Related Content
  5. Refresh the Endpoints page
  6. Verify the new Device Name is displayed and is in the correct Policy per the Sensor Group

Additional Information

  • By default, Sensors installed via the Attended Installation Method, will install into their auto-assigned group and its related policy (Unless the Sensor Group Criteria is not met, in which case it will default to the 'Standard Policy' and remain 'Unassigned', until it meets the criteria to allow it to be assigned to a given group)
  • By default, Sensors installed via the Unattended Installation Method, will install into their auto-assigned group and its related policy (Unless the 'Group_Name' syntax has been specified as part of the install syntax, in which case it will be assigned to the specified policy and will remain 'Manually Assigned' - The Sensor will not move into a Sensor Group at any stage, unless the 'Auto-assign' option has been enabled for that sensor
  • The 'Group_Name' Syntax refers to the Policy name and not to the Sensor Group name
