Carbon Black Cloud: Proxy setting missing in cfg.ini after MSI install

Issue/Introduction

• After running the MSI install command using the PROXY_SERVER, cfg.ini shows the PROXYSERVER field as blank
• Sensor is still installed and checks into the server

Environment

• Carbon Black Cloud Sensor: 3.5.0
• Microsoft Windows: All Supported Versions
• MSI Install Package

Cause

The proxy settings are removed from cgf.ini and stored in the database

Resolution

This is behaving as designed in an effort to prevent the information being stored in plain text. Sensor communication will still flow through the proxy

Additional Information

• The move of the setting should be logged in the installer logs present under %TEMP% or C:\Windows\temp

  • CDeviceRegistration::cleanup: Clear unencrypted proxy info from cfg.ini
