Issue/Introduction

When trying to install a new Agent, the installation fails with an error message.

Generic host package could not obtain default values from registry. Install cannot proceed without server and port settings.

Environment

  • App Control Agent: All Supported Versions
  • Microsoft Windows: All Supported Versions

Cause

This is a result of using the Unbranded Installer (ParityHostAgent.msi) file to deploy new Agents without properly specifying all parameters.

Resolution

Review the Agent Install Methods and be sure the full command line and correct file is being used. Typically it is not recommended to use the Unbranded Installer for new installs unless deploying on Windows XP or Server 2003.

Additional Information

  • Alternatively, consider using the Policy Installer (or Branded Installer) which contains all configuration settings built into the MSI file.
  • This can also happen when using the Policy Installer with incorrect permissions.
