CB Defense: Sensor Upgrade Fails on Windows 10

Issue/Introduction

• Upgrading Sensor from 2.x.x.x/3.1.x.x to 3.2.x.x and higher fails
• The verbose MSI log may show an error with accessing the db_whi file

  Example 1:
  
  Error 1306. Another application has exclusive access to the file 'C:\Program Files\Confer\db_whi'. Please shut down all other applications, then click Retry.
  
  Example 2:
  
  Failed to generate hash for file 'C:\Program Files\Confer\db_whi'. Error: 0x20

Environment

• CB Defense PSC Sensor: 3.1.x.x and lower
• Windows 10 1709 (10.0.16299), Windows 10 1803 (10.0.17134)

Cause

Known issue with Sensor installers that existed previous to Sensor version 3.2.x.x

Resolution

1. Uninstall affected Sensor 
2. Perform a new install of 3.2.1.51 or higher Sensor

Additional Information

• Many improvements were made to the installer beginning with the 3.2 version of the Sensor that address these upgrade issues (See 3.2 Release Notes)
• In order to realize these improvements, the previous version will need to be uninstalled prior to installing version 3.2.x.x and higher
• This issue was confirmed on Windows 10 1709 and Windows 10 1803
• This issue may affect other versions of Windows that have not been confirmed
